Our polite and informative phone staff is always available to answer your calls 24/7. We listen to your infestation problems and describe our methods for solving your problem. Rat removal is not as easy as you think for several reasons. But most notably, failure to identify all entry holes will only provide a temporary fix. In no time, new rodents will begin living there. However, our tried-and-true comprehensive 32-point inspection process always identifies all entry holes (even the ones as small as a dime). We then make use of caulk or other suited unchewable materials to seal the holes to prevent re-entry. We primarily make use of snap and electric traps that are strategically placed to capture the rats. If re-infestation occurs, we'll fix it at no additional cost. Because we are most interested in the long-term peace of mind of our clients, we help them implement preventive strategies to ensure rat infestation doesn't reoccur. We also provide our clients with useful tips to lower the likelihood of re-infestation. Our commitment to providing the best to our clients is why we've been voted the #1 wildlife control company in the city for three years. We are available for fast service! Dayton pest control

We Ohio's top experts in rodent control. We are not a typical Dayton rat removal or pest control company. We don't treat rats or mice like insects, because they are not - they are mammals! You can't just use poison to get rid of them, like you can with insects. Unlike most Dayton pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions. We don't just use poison every month. We solve your rodent problem forever, by following these steps:

  • Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
  • Seal shut all entry areas, no matter how small, with steel
  • Set a dozen or more rat or mouse traps in the house and attic
  • Remove all rodents as they are caught and monitor for activity
  • Once there is no more activity and no more caught, we're done
  • When necessary, we clean rodent droppings, replace insulation, and repair chewed electric wires

Dayton Rodent Removal Tip:

Different types of rat snap traps
Snap traps have been the homeowner's answer to rats and other unwanted intruders on their property since forever, and continue to be one of the most popular rat removal options to this day. But not all snap traps are created equal, which is what we'll be looking at in the following lines.

First of all, how does a snap trap work?
Before we get into the different complexities of snap traps, let's talk a bit about how this invention works. Now, a snap trap is by far the easiest type of pest control device there is. Quite simply, a snap trap constitutes of a pressure plate, a hammer, and a spring (and of course the platform they're all on).

When the rodent steps on the platform, unto the pressure plate, the movement triggers the spring and brings the hammer down, essentially killing the rodent. It's a big favorite for homeowners worldwide because it's easy, efficient, and most of all, it is cheap.

So now that we know how these work, let's look at the different types of snap traps out there.

rodent trapping Metal Hammer
The classic snap trap, the one you no doubt remember from those Tom and Jerry episodes, usually has a metal hammer, which comes down forcefully, hopefully crushing the rodent spine (I say hopefully because if it doesn't, the poor creature may well spend hours there, suffocating to death and that's cruel and inhumane).

Now, the good thing about snap traps with a metal hammer is that they're highly efficient and inexpensive. They've got great power, and you can pretty much rely on them to get the job done. However, snap traps with a metal hammer can also be dangerous to you, your family, and pets. For example, if you accidentally get your finger or toe in there, the metal hammer can easily cause you to lose it. Likewise, if you have a pet and they accidentally trigger the hammer, it can cripple them for life.

Plastic Hammer
So in more recent times, companies have been working to find an alternative to the metal hammer, and they've come up with the plastic snap trap. Essentially, this is a sort of plastic mouth with little rows of teeth that come down and catch the rodent into place. These have the added benefit of not bringing you into direct contact with the rodent's dead body (since you would have to touch it, in a traditional snap trap, to get the rat out of there). Because the plastic hammer lacks some considerable strength, when compared to the metal one, it has less of a chance to cause permanent damage when handled by you or when touched by your pets.

While the plastic hammer is generally considered safer than the metal one, it's also less effective. For example, with a metal hammer, you have a pretty good shot to kill the rat on impact, which is what you should be going for if kill you must. With plastic snap traps, on the other hand, you're less sure.

Other options…
Of course, if snap traps aren't for you, you can opt for an alternative. You could have a professional pest removal company come in and take care of it for you. Likewise, you could use a live trap to get rid of your rat problem. Much like a snap trap, the live trap is activated by a pressure plate, which the rat activates by stepping on it. Only instead of simply being a platform, the live trap is a cage that closes down once the rat steps inside, thus trapping it without hurting it.
